Climate change: PPE against the cold adapts

Update 26.06.24

Working outdoors in winter: cold-related risks

Delta Plus has just presented its Winter 2023-2024 clothing collection as part of its range of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Among the new models selected are those designed to meet the new requirements of outdoor workers.

As you know, working in very cold weather without sufficient protection can lead to increased fatigue, inattention, longer reaction times or a lack of precision when your fingers are numb from the cold.

In the most extreme situations, this weather hazard can also lead to a risk of hypothermia or frostbite for people working outdoors.

Choosing cold weather equipment: criteria

To prevent risks, it's essential to wear the right protective clothing: outdoor safety clothing must be chosen with the temperature, wind and rain in mind. This can be a complicated task when climate change brings unprecedented cold snaps followed by abnormally mild spells, one after the other in the course of a single winter.

The high level of physical activity required for certain types of work also needs to be taken into account in order to alleviate the discomfort caused by over-covered operators who start to sweat profusely.

The solution lies in modularity: wearing several layers of clothing means that heat can be modulated according to variations in outside temperatures and the worker's physical activity.

Delta Plus offers a varied range of PPE against the cold

Outdoor equipment to protect every part of the body

Historically, Delta Plus has offered a wide range of PPE adapted to cold and wet climates, from the undercoat to the outer layer:
- breathable underwear (tights and t-shirts) that dries quickly to prevent the body cooling down,
- fleece-lined sweatshirts, warm vests, down jackets and parkas up to minus 30°C, waterproof clothing
- gloves
- balaclavas,...

Modular winter PPE for greater flexibility

To meet new needs, we have also developed 2, 3 or even 5-in-1 modular garments, which can be easily adapted to suit all weather conditions and all levels of activity for greater worker comfort:
- Our Randers jackets, for example, have removable sleeves,
- Our Speed, Alaska 3 and Isola 2 parkas include a waterproof jacket and a fleece under-jacket with removable sleeves. The two can be combined or separated, for a total of 5 different combinations.

Protective gear, with recycled wadding filling

Adapting to climate change also means reducing our carbon footprint: Delta Plus also offers several models of winter PPE filled with recycled polyester wadding. This padding provides effective insulation that is lightweight, easy to wash and environmentally friendly. This is the choice we made for the Flen and Tatry2 parkas and the Gravity and Gdoon sleeveless down jackets.
