Ova europska norma definira, pozivajući se na normu EN ISO 20344, osnovne i dodatne zahtjeve za sigurnosne cipele za profesionalnu uporabu, s oznakom «S». Sigurnosne cipele opremljene su sigurnosnom zaštitnom kapicom dizajniranom za zaštitu od udarca maksimalne snage 200 J i od nagnječenja snage 15 kN.

Ova norma definira metode ispitivanja koje se koriste za sigurnosne cipele, zaštitne cipele i profesionalne radne cipele. Ova se norma smije koristiti samo zajedno s normama EN ISO 20345 i EN ISO 20347, koji određuju zahtjeve cipela u odnosu na stupanj opasnosti.

• Osobna zaštitna oprema (OZO) kategorije 1: Zaštita od manjih rizika.
• Osobna zaštitna oprema (OZO) kategorije 2: Sva OZO koja ne spada u kategoriju 1 ili 3.
• Osobna zaštitna oprema (OZO) kategorije 3: Zaštita od rizika koji mogu ozbiljno i nepovratno oštetiti zdravlje ili dovesti do smrtnih opasnosti.
